Summer Day Program: Since 2000, The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley has provided to Junior and Senior High students who utilize special education service in the school system, including those with intellectual, cognitive, and related developmental disabilities, the opportunity to attend a 6-week summer day program in an effort to provide social and therapeutic recreation activities to the consumers, as well as respite for caregivers and other family members during this time.

This program is one of the most rewarding of The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley's direct service programs, for both staff and families, with an average attendance of 27 students per week. With a strong emphasis on daily living skills, peer interaction, socialization skills, and developing appropriate behaviors, this program is designed to provide individuals the opportunity to engage in a variety of structured and free choice activities and emphasizes to development of leisure skills. Staff provides supervision and support to participants, many of which have extremely challenging behaviors and require one-on-one supervision. Accommodations are provided and include additional assistance from staff, modifications of the activities, and adapted equipment.

Students learn recreation skills and to make choices by offering activities in the community, such as horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, bowling, volunteering at area shops, community service projects for the city and local senior citizens programs. Other sources of funding for this program are the Henry Logan Children's Foundation, and the West Virginia Family Support Program distributed by Westbrook Health Services. The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley's Summer Day Program provides a structured, caring and supportive environment that brings together students, counselors and volunteers for fun, personal growth and "memories that last a lifetime."
